Welcome

A sailing and powerboat school accessible to all. Dinghy and keelboat sailing with accessible boats included. We have recreational, accredited training and competitive activities for children, adults, families aged from 4 years to no upper age limit.  We have a wheelchair friendly powerboat. We are based in an accessible yacht harbour with many other facilities, including accessible cafe, wine bar, watersports chandlery shop, toilets.  We provide all clothing and equipment for all the sessions. Free parking passes available to all of our customers.  All sessions must be pre-booked.

Level access

The main entrance has level access. There is a portable ramp.

Travel by public transport

You can get to Mylor Sailng and Powerboat School by bus.
The nearest bus from either Truro or Falmouth will take you to the top of the hill before you get to Mylor Yacht Habour. It is then a ten minute walk down the hill. The bus stop is 0.5 miles / 0.8 km from Mylor Sailng and Powerboat School.

For people with mobility issues,  you will need to take a taxi from the top of the hill.  For further information or advice on this then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Travel by taxi

You can get a taxi with Able Cars by calling 01326 373007. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
You can get a taxi with A 2 B by calling 01326 378262. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Parking

We have a car park. There are accessible parking spaces. Parking is free.
There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point has a dropped kerb.
From the car park to the entrance, there is level access. There is a permanent ramp.
The route is 2000mm wide, or more.

This is not needed as we are located in a level car park.  During peak times we hold car parking spaces right outside the school, you just need to let us know if you require one of these and we will guide you into the relevant spaces.

We are located in large wooden huts and the wide doors are always open.  There are grab rails with colour contrasting at the main entrance.  There are colour contrasting areas for door handles, light switches etc.

Getting around inside

We have high colour contrast between walls and doorframes.

Ticket/ information desk

Reception area for arrivals

From the main entrance to the desk, there is level access. There is a portable ramp. The route is 2000mm wide, or more.
The door is 2000mm wide, or more.
The desk has a low section.

The main entrance has double doors which are open at all times.  The reception and information area is in a large hut and someone will be there to assist you at all times. Grab handles with contrasting colours on both sides of the doors.

Spectator/ Audience viewing areas

There are stewards to help disabled visitors.

We have a viewing area for wheelchair users.

Customers can view activities from the quayside, this has level access

From the main entrance to the viewing area, there is level access. The route is 2000 wide, or more. The door is 2000 wide.
Personal assistants and friends can sit with wheelchair users.
Wheelchair users can sit with their own fans.
Stewards can bring food and drink to wheelchair users.

The viewing area is outside and over looks the marina with lots of boats.

Public toilet

Accessible toilet

There is a public toilet for disabled visitors.
From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. There is a permanent ramp.
The route is 1000mm wide, or more.
The toilet door is 800mm wide.
The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the left.
There is 1000mm at the side of the toilet. There is 2000mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 600mm high. The toilets have handrails.

These facilities have a coded access and the code is available from a member of staff.  The facilities belong to the Yacht Harbour and they are approximately 400m away from the sailing school on a level access all the way. There is also a baby changing area.

Getting around outside

In the car park away from the Huts and School

From the main entrance to the smoking area, there is level access. There is a permanent ramp. The route is 800mm wide, or more.
The entrance is 2000mm wide.

There is no official smoking area, but we request that smokers are away from the classrooms and main reception area and use the official safe ashtray mounted on the rail.  Please let us know if you require help with this.

Route down to boats on pontoon

From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. There is a permanent ramp. The route is 2000mm wide, or more. The entrance is 2000mm wide.

Most of the school is based outside, it is all level access with a tarmac ground base.  There is a level route from the huts to the pontoons where the boats are located.  There is a slope down to the slipway for boarding the wheelchair friendly powerboat.

There is an area of grass for exercising dogs very close to the premises, a member of staff will direct you to this. If you require any help with exercising your dog, then please just ask any of our instructors who will be happy to assist.
We have an area to charge mobility scooters and battery powered wheelchairs.

We have an indoor kit room with electricity for recharging and storing any items.

You can hire mobility equipment from EPC Wheelchcairs by calling 01872 218008.

Emergency evacuation procedures

We have emergency evacuation procedures for disabled visitors.

As we are mainly located outdoors and on a large level access quay, evacuating away from our buildings is easy.

Many staff have had blind and deaf awareness training with Sign Supported English (SSE) basic communications, specific to our activirties. 

We have other services for people with accessibility requirements.

Wheelchair friendly powerboat, the front part of the boat lowers down onto the slipway so that wheelchairs or anyone with mobility problems can board with ease and dignity.

We also have an accessible sailing boat with hoist into a beanbag chair or support seats
