Woodlands is a purpose-built accommodation building set in a picturesque location in the heart of the Peak District National Park with fantastic rural views towards mature woodland and just 250 metres away from the 8.5 mile long, flat, traffic-free route of the Monsal Trail.
Designed to cater for up to 10 people including those with additional needs, the property has level access throughout, accessible parking right outside the front door, and wet room. Plus, an electric profile bed and hoist.
Whilst located in the grounds of Thornbridge Outdoors, Woodlands is for private use and has its own fenced patio and garden area.

Travel by public transport
Buses are available in the nearby villages of Ashford-in-the-Water and Great Longstone although they do not run directly onto the site. The nearest railway station is at Grindleford which is approximately 7 miles away. Given the rural location of the property it is advised that visitors have their own transport. A large, level, accessible, private parking space is provided directly outside the property on a firm, block-paved surface with direct access to the covered entrance porch with seating and outside toilet, which leads to the extra-wide front door.

The entrance to Woodlands is beneath a large porch area with integrated bench seating meaning that guests are sheltered as they enter or leave the property. There is also an outside toilet to the side of this area for your convenience.

Accessible bedroom Bedroom one
The accessible bedroom one sleeps 4 people in one bunk bed, one single bed and one Invacare Accent single electric profiling bed (maximum weight 145kg) with a Countrywide Healthcare Picara low risk polyurethane foam mattress (that can also be used as a standard single bed) with an en-suite accessible shower room. The electric profiling bed rises to a height of 940mm to the top of the mattress giving 640mm clearance to the underside of the bed. There is a emergency pull cord in the bedroom.
The Arjohuntleigh ceiling track hoist with Maxi-Sky remote control (maximum weight 200kg) runs between the accessible bedroom and the en-suite, accessible bathroom. Guests must bring their own sling to access the hoist. The en-suite accessible bathroom is equipped with a height-adjustable, adult-sized Chiltern Invadex TRT3 mobile shower bed / changing bench (maximum weight 190kg); and a Etac Clean shower commode chair & belt. The sink in the bathroom is also height-adjustable. There is a emergency pull cord in the accessible bathroom.
A door from the accessible bathroom leads to the adjacent utility room equipped with washing machine, tumble-dryer and sink. The door between the accessible bathroom and the utilitiy room is 620mm wide.

There is a flashing fire alarm in the second bathroom in addition to the audible alarm which is fitted throughout the property.
Utility room
The utility room has an automatic washing machine, tumble-dryer and sink. A 'sharps' bin is also provided. The width of the operating space in the utility room is 740mm.
Self catering kitchen
Kitchen area
Enter through a 720mm wide entrance from the dining and lounge area into a ‘galley-style’ kitchen, with a floor space that is 1150 mm wide by 2240mm in length. In the kitchen, the handles of all wall units are set at a height of 1400mm from the floor. The kitchen is equipped with an oven, electric hobs, and a small built-in dishwasher. There is an electric kettle, a toaster, and a microwave. The kitchen also has a tall, free-standing fridge freezer and there are recycling bins. A wide variety of plates and cups, pots and pans, and assorted ovenware are provided. The kitchen is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Lounge and dining room
The beautiful, large, comfortable and versatile lounge / dining room measures 6700mm by 5600mm and boasts bi-folding, fully-glazed doors which give outstanding views onto the level terrace, garden and surrounding countryside.
The lounge is equipped with a comfortable 3-seater sofa and 2-seater sofa bed. There is a coffee table plus a dining table by the bi-folding doors which seats up to six people. In addition, there is a four-seater table to the side of the room. There is a 50 inch wall-mounted flat-screen LED televsion (subtitles available) plus Blu-Ray player and Bluetooth speaker. There is also free Wi-fi.
The heating for the property is controlled via a thermostat situated on the lounge wall next to the door to the hallway and front door.
A king-size, pull-down bed with pocket-sprung mattress is also available in the lounge area with a gap of 250mm beneath to accommodate the portable hoist with ease.
Storage cupboard off main lounge area
This large, useful, storage cupboard houses the bedding and pillows for the king-size, pull-down bed in the lounge area. A child's high chair and travel cot are also housed here.
Entrance hallway
This spacious hallway, measuring 2860mm by 2060mm provides access from the front door to the boiler room and cloak / boot room, then leads to the main lounge and dining area. The hallway houses a coat-rack, bin and the controls for the fire alarm system and entrance alarm system.
Cloak / boot room
This useful storage room, off the entrance hallway has a hanging rail and shelving and provides an ideal space for storing coats, boots, other clothing and equipment.
Getting around outside
Front, enclosed terrace and picnic area
The large, bi-folding doors from the lounge / dining area provide level access to the large, decked terrace with accessible picnic table. The picnic table is 730mm high and can accommodate two wheelchair users, one at either end. There is also bench seating at either side of the table at a height of 480mm from the floor. There is a level, grassed area on the terrace plus flower beds with a variety of plants.
A 1.5 metre wide path runs the entire length of the front of the property through the terrace area and there is a block-paved turning circle to facilitate access by wheelchair users at the far end.
Rear garden
The rear garden slopes and is enclosed. At the moment it’s a natural woodland setting with a number of mature trees and we’re currently developing the area . The garden is not suitable for wheelchair access, and it can be muddy at times.
Customer care support
We have a variety of high rope activities on site, some of which are accessible by hoist and we can also provide specialist harnesses. Our Sky Ropes has been adapted to allow wheelchair users to be able to have a go. The activities are subject to availability and are an additional charge.
Hassop Station Bike Hire on the Monsal Trail have a wheelchair bike and electric bikes to hire.
There are sockets in the hallway and additional sockets by the front door under the sheltered canopy.
Emergency evacuation procedures
The fire alarm is a loud siren and the assembly point is in the main car park. Visitors are asked to familiarise themselves with the Fire Action Notice in the Woodlands Guest Information pack. Visitors will be required to plan their own evacuation on arrival.
