Welcome

Rod and Gloria assure you a warm, friendly and informal welcome at our Bed and Breakfast situated in the crofting community of Back on the beautiful Isle of Lewis.

The property has three letting rooms that are all siutated on the first floor.

There is a lobby, breakfast room and a very spacious lounge.

We endeavour to make ourselves and our Bed and Breakfast as accesible as we can.

We aim to accurately describe our facilities to enable you to have an informed picture of our Bed and Breakfast.

Travel by public transport

You can get to Wardicott Bed and Breakfast by bus and boat or ferry.
The bus will stop at the driveway to the property. There is a regular bus service W5 from the Stornoway bus station. Just tell the driver to drop you off at Wardicott in Lighthill. To catch the W5 bus from the property to Stornoway bus station simply indicate to the bus driver and he will stop for you. Stornoway bus station is a short distance from the Stornoway Ferry Terminal. Stornoway bus station serves as the hub for connecting services throughout the island. The bus stop is 0 miles / 0.0 km from Wardicott Bed and Breakfast.
The nearest port is Stornoway is the nearest port. There is also a Stornoway airport.. The port is 7.8 miles / 12.6 km from Wardicott Bed and Breakfast.

Stornoway bus station is a short distance from the ferry terminal.

The route is mostly flat and takes about 4 minutes on foot.

Travel by taxi

You can get a taxi with Jimms Taxis by calling 01851 705533. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Parking

We have a car park. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is free.
The nearest drop off point to the main entrance is in the gravel driveway to the property. From the parking to the main entrance, there are 2 steps. There is no ramp and no lift.

Wheelchair access to the property is easier via the rear door.

From the street to the main entrance, there are 2 steps. There is no ramp and no lift.
The path is sloped.

The door is 720mm wide.
The main entrance has 1 steps.
The main door is side hung and manual.

The main entrance vestibule has two doors. Main front door width is 720mm and the inner door is 710mm. The rear door access has a wider door of 770mm which has level access approach then a step and a threshold. Wheelchair users will allways be met on arrival and be able to choose which entrance they wish to use.

Getting around inside

Visual Impairment - General Information

We have high colour contrast between walls and doorframes.
Door frame contrast throughout the property.

Main reception.

From the main entrance to reception, there is level access. The door is 71mm wide.
The check-in desk has a low section for wheelchair users. You can sit down at reception.

From the rear door there are no doors to pass through to the reception area or base of stairs.

Bedrooms

All bedrooms have windows.
Bedrooms have ceiling lights, bedside lamps, desk or table lamps and natural daylight.
Lights are LED, energy saving and traditional filament. TVs have subtitles.
All bedrooms are non-smoking.
We have non-allergic bedding.
All bedrooms have fitted carpets.
Complimentary shampoo, conditioner and body wash are dermatologically tested and are free from parabens, mineral oils and phenoxyethanol. Complimentary soap is is certified cruelty free vegan, paragon free and dermatologically tested. and Our linen and towels are washed with non-bio powders. We dust with micro fibre cloths. Our vacuum cleaners have HEPA filters. Product data sheets of cleaning chemicals available on request.
We can move the bedroom furniture, to improve accessibility.
The bedroom nearest the main entrance has 15 steps.
All bedrooms are ensuite.
We have bathrooms with a bath and overhead shower.

Lounge

Spacious guest lounge.

From the main entrance to the lounge, there is level access. The route is 1700mm wide, or more. The door is 1000mm wide.

The very spacious lounge has ample space for relaxation without feeling overcrowded.

Place to eat and drink

Breakfast room

From the main entrance to the dining area, there is level access. The route is 1700mm wide, or more. The door is 1000mm wide.
To get to a table, there are no steps.
The route through the dining area is 800mm wide, or more.
There is no background music.
The table and plates have high colour contrast.
We cater for sugar free (diabetic), vegetarian, lactose free (dairy free), nut free, low sodium and high fibre specific diets.

Guests are asked to provided details of any food alergies and special dietry requirments. Allergen sufferers will be fully consulted about the ingredients of their meals and how they are cooked.

A full table service can be provided.

From the main entrance to this area, there are 14 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.

The first floor walkway has ample space and has a large window with a sea views. A powerfull telescope is available for guest to use.

From the main entrance to the gardens, there are 6 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.

Customer care support

Accessibility equipment

There is a separate garden to the rear of the property that is designated an assistance dog toilet area. It is approximately thirty metres from the rear access door. Hosts are dog owners and are happy to take assistance dogs to the designated dog toilet area.
We have an area to charge mobility scooters and battery powered wheelchairs.

Power point 3 pin plug socket in garage for charging mobility scooter or battery powered wheelchairs under cover. Long extension lead available for charging outside the garage.

All windows in the property are inward opening.
