Welcome
Ullswater ‘Steamers’ celebrates over 160 years of operating cruises on one of England’s most beautiful lakes, Ullswater. Operating one of the largest heritage boat fleets in the world, we offer visitors an unforgettable experience 363 days a year.
The cruises from Ullswater ‘Steamers’ connect to some of the most famous and iconic walking routes in the Lake District National Park, with views of Wordsworth's daffodils on the west shore in spring.

Glenridding Pier
The pier is the access point to the boats. The pier is a flat surface with level access from the main entrance and through the pier house. Unfortunately, motorized wheelchairs are not permitted on the boats due to the associated safety issues. Please contact us in advance on 017684 82229 to discuss arrangements regarding borrowing a wheelchair.
There are hand rails along the pier edge for safety and mobility.
Onboard the boats
All of our boats bar one (M.V. Lady Dorothy) have upper decks with level access, making them wheelchair accessible. The gangplank to each of the boats is 700m wide at its narrowest with ample width for most wheelchairs.
There is an upstairs toilet on M.V. Lady Wakefield, all other toilets are only accessible via steps.
We advise passengers requiring wheelchair access to contact us in advance of their visit to discuss the suitability of boats and lake levels on the day of travel.
All of our boats have audio commentary to help describe the views from onboard.
Assistance dogs are welcome onboard.
