Welcome

Our contemporary art gallery is based in a Georgian town house, 5 minutes from Honiton's High Street. We support and promote contemporary art & craft through our inspiring exhibition programme and co-ordinating learning activities.

Whether you visit an art exhibition, our shop or refreshments area, or participate in a workshop, talk or activity, our staff and volunteers aim to ensure you have an enjoyable experience. 

We welcome visitors and families with disabilites and are happy to help with any specific access requirements.  

Please get in touch if you require information about specific access needs or advice on planning your visit.

Level access

The main entrance has level access. The ramp is permanent.

Travel by public transport

You can get to Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG) by bus and train.
The nearest bus stop is on Honiton High Street at the traffic lights in front of Boots the chemist. It is a 5 minute walk to the gallery from there, through Lace Walk and alongside the Lace Walk car park. The bus stop is 0.2 miles / 0.3 km from Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG).
The nearest train station is Honiton . The train station is 0.6 miles / 1.0 km from Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG).

There is a 13 minutes walk from station. Turn left down New Street, across the pedestrian crossing on the High Street through Lace Walk and alongside the Lace Walk car park.

Travel by taxi

You can get a taxi with Sparky's Taxis by calling 01404 47670. You can get a taxi with Millstream Taxis by calling 01404 45825. You can get a taxi with Taxi Honiton by calling 07811564057.

Parking

There is parking near the venue. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is not free.
There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point has a dropped kerb.
From the car park to the entrance, there is level access. There is a permanent ramp.
The route is 1000mm wide, or more.

Alternative car- width entrance via garden leading up to the gallery door. Please call in advance and we will open the gates.

We have 1 lift.
You can get a lift to all floors.

Ground Floor Lift.

The lift is a platform lift.
The lift door is 860mm wide.
The lift is 830mm wide. The lift is 1200mm deep.
The lift only goes to one floor.

We have performances with: audio-described, British Sign Language interpreted and relaxed.
We have display information in: audio and large print.
We have a designated quiet space.

Main Gallery

Learning Room

From the lift to this area, the route is 1240mm wide, or more. The door is 860mm wide.

Public toilet

There is a public toilet for disabled visitors.
From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the left.
There is 490mm at the side of the toilet. There is 1310mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 455mm high. The toilets have handrails.

Place to eat and drink

Café.

From the main entrance to the dining area, there is level access. There is a permanent ramp. The route is 900mm wide, or more. The door is 900mm wide.
To get to a table, there are no steps.
The menu is offered in large print.
The route through the dining area is 800mm wide, or more.
There is no background music.

The cafe provides hot and cold drinks and biscuits only. The tables and chairs are not fixed so can be moved around to accomodate wheelchair users.

From the car park to the picnic area, there is level access. The path is 750mm wide, or more.
The entrance is 750mm wide.
Some tables have space for wheelchair users. You can bring your own food to the picnic area.

We have an area to charge mobility scooters and battery powered wheelchairs.
