Accessibility Guide for Sunday Cottage

Welcome

Sunday Cottage is located in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, in the village of Grosmont. Which is the eastern station of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Sunday Cottage is a graded by the National Accessability scheme as being to M3a standard. Sunday Cottage is half of a converted stone built Weslyan Sunday school. The cottage can sleep five people in a double bedroom, Twin bedroom and the single bedded ground floor M3a standard bedroom which is en-suite with a wet room. Sunday Cottage is part of a complex of four holiday cottages two in the Old Sunday School and two in the converted Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. All four cottages sleep a total of 18 people.

Travel by public transport

You can get to Sunday Cottage by train.

The nearest train station is Grosmont. The train station is 0.5 miles / 0.8 km from Sunday Cottage.

Grosmont is situated at the junction of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and National Esk Valley line which links Whitby to Middlesbrough. Although the train station is only a short distance from the cottage, due to the steep gradient, it is advisable to have a powered wheelchair or have the use of a car during your stay. The cottage is situated in the heart of all the wonderful accessible North Yorkshire Moors and only 7 miles / 11.3 km from the coastal attractions and a car is the bestway to fully explore the area.

The trains that arrive at the Grosmont station are Esk Valley line from Middlesbrough to Whitby and of course is one end of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The heritage railway runs from Pickering to Grosmont, running times are limited during the winter time so it is best at all times to check their timetables.

Travel by taxi

Parking

We have a car park. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is free.

There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point does not have a dropped kerb.

From the car park to the entrance, there is level access. There is a permanent ramp.

The path is sloped.

The route is 800mm wide, or more.

Although there is no official drop off point, visitors can drop off directly at the bottom of the ramped path that leads to the cottage, but please park your car as soon as possible in the provided parking space.

Some bedrooms have fitted carpets.

The areas that are carpeted are the stair case, the twin bed room and the double room. All the ground floor is tiled. and The accessible bedroom has a Bakare electric profiling bed which has wheels is extremely flexible and therefore the space at the side, height and space underneath can all change to suit individual needs.

We can move the bedroom furniture, to improve accessibility.

The toilets have handrails. The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the left and right. There is 800mm at the side of the toilet.

There is 3000mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 500mm high.

The basin is 740mm high. The taps are lever operated. There is space under the basin, with no pedestal or boxing.

The bathroom has an emergency call system.

The walls and the bathroom fittings have high colour contrast.

From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. The route is 750mm wide, or more.

There are 18 Steps from the lounge to first floor, The stair case is 750mm wide. There is one hand rail which is on the righthand side. the stair case is well lit. with a high pendent light and low step lights. Four steps up from the lounge the stairs turn 90deg left.

Ground Floor Bedroom and ensuite is equipped with an ceiling hoist.

The bed is a Bakare adjustable nursing bed.

A shower chair is available

There is a Modulo Raiser recliner chair in the lounge.

A air mattress, Shower Trolly, and mobile hoist are available locally for hire please contact the cottage owners for details.

The cottage is in the village of Grosmont and there are several areas around the village which would be suitable.

We have an area to charge mobility scooters and battery powered wheelchairs.

Emergency evacuation procedures

We have emergency evacuation procedures for disabled visitors.

Nurse call system in place with call pull cords by the bed in the adapted bedroom and next to the shower controls and also between the sink and toilet in the en-suite wetroom. the alarm and warning lamp is situated on the staircase.
