Welcome

Salcey Forest is a Forestry England woodland. We have walking, running, cycling and horse trails to be explored in an abundance of history and wildlife. Salcey Forest is located 7 miles from Northampton and 15 miles from Milton Keynes and is an ideal place for visitors of all ages and abilities to enjoy and discover this ancient semi-natural woodland accredited by the Visitor attraction Quality Assurance Scheme.

Additionally, there is an on-site cafe, disabled and family toilet facilities and a visitor information centre. (open 7 days a week 9am til 4pm)

Travel by public transport

You can get to Salcey Forest by bus.
The nearest bus stop is in Hartwell. The bus stop is 1.3 miles / 2.1 km from Salcey Forest.

Travel by taxi

You can get a taxi with Skyline by calling 01604 222111. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Parking

We have a car park. There are accessible parking spaces. Parking is not free.
There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point has a dropped kerb.
From the car park to the entrance, there is level access. The route is 940mm wide, or more.
We have a transport service, to take visitors from the car park to the main entrance. Our transport service is wheelchair accessible.

 The site has level access with a large car park (including 6 Blue Badge spaces) in front of the Main Visitor Hub.

Unisex Accessible Toilets

There is a public toilet for disabled visitors.
You need a RADAR key to open the public toilet.
From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. The route is 940mm wide, or more.
The toilet door is 940mm wide.
The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the right.
There is 860mm at the side of the toilet. There is 1600mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 470mm high. The toilets have handrails.

 There is a radar key available in the Information Point.

Unisex Accessable Toilets

There is a public toilet for disabled visitors.
The toilet is a Changing Places toilet.
From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. The route is 940mm wide, or more.
The toilet door is 940mm wide.
The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the right.
There is 860mm at the side of the toilet. There is 1400mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 470mm high. The toilets have handrails.

Male Toilets

From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. The route is 940mm wide, or more.
The toilet door is 810mm wide.
The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the front only.
There is 230mm at the side of the toilet. There is 370mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 470mm high.

The male toilets have five urinals and 3 toilet cubicles. There are three sinks at 800mm high and one at 680mm high and 2 hand-driers.

Female Toilets

From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. The route is 940mm wide, or more.
The toilet door is 810mm wide.
The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the front only.
There is 230mm at the side of the toilet. There is 370mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 470mm high.

The female toilets comprise of 7 cubicles, 6 sinks and 2 hand-driers.

Grounds Cafe

From the main entrance to the dining area, there is level access. The route is 1100mm wide, or more. The door is 1500mm wide.
To get to a table, there are no steps.
The dining area is self-service. If you need table service, staff can help you.
The route through the dining area is 800mm wide, or more.
There is no background music.
The table and plates have high colour contrast.
We cater for sugar free (diabetic), vegetarian, gluten free (celiacs), lactose free (dairy free), nut free, low fat and vegan specific diets.

Grounds Cafe is located within the main Visitor Hub and has two indoor seating areas and an external brick patio area. It has seating for 48 customers inside and seating for approximately 50 more outside. Two of the outside tables have space for wheelchair users.

Designated Walking Trail

Elephant Walk

The trail is 1200metres long. The trail has a hard surface. The trail has seats.

 Trails are clearly signposted and the Elephant Walk waymarkers are purple.

Church Path Walk

The trail is 2500metres long. The trail has a hard surface. Some of the trail has a loose surface. The trail has seats.

 All trails are clearly signposted and the Church Path Walk waymarkers are yellow.

Woodpecker Trail

The trail is 10000metres long. Some of the trail has a loose surface. The trail has seats.

All trails are clearly signposted and the Woodpecker Trail waymarkers are pink. This trail starts with a firm compressed surface which changes to grass and is undulating and uneven in places. There are two road crossing points. This trail can become very wet and soft underfoot particularly after heavy rain.

Horse Trail

The trail is 8000metres long. Some of the trail has a loose surface. The trail has seats.

All trails are clearly signposted and the Horse Trail waymarkers are brown in colour. It is undulating with sections of compressed stone surface and a grass/soil surface. There are four road crossing points.

Family Cycle Trail

The trail is 8000metres long. The trail has a hard surface. The trail has seats.

All trails are clearly signposted and the Cycle Trail waymarkers are grey. It is undulating with a firm compressed stone surface and there are 2 road crossings.

Picnic Area

Visitor Hub

From the car park to the picnic area, there is level access. The path is 940mm wide, or more.
The entrance is 940mm wide.
Some tables have space for wheelchair users. You can bring your own food to the picnic area.

 There are also other picnic benches along the trails in the forest and around the car park.

Childrens Play Area

From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. The route is 940mm wide, or more. The entrance is 810mm wide.

The play area is suitable for children of age five and upwards and has a level bark covered surface. It comprises of mainly wooden and rope climping equipment as well as a slide. There are three benches within the play area and the adjacent picnic area has a clear view of the play area.
