Welcome

Russets Cottage is part of an early twentieth centuary farm worker's cottage which was converted to 2003 building standards. We have tried to provide as much useful information as possible in this Accessibility Guide but, if you have any queries please telephone or email us.  Information about the cottages can be provided in different font sizes. This guide is to be used in conjuction with our web site.  We look forward to welcoming you to Russets.

Access with steps

The main entrance has 2 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.

All guests are provided with written directions to the cottage and useful websites to help them plan there holiday.

Travel by public transport

You can get to Russets at Sunnymead Cottages by train.
The nearest train station is Buxted Station. The train station is 2 miles / 3.2 km from Russets at Sunnymead Cottages.

We recommend that you use Uckfield Station because it is about 4 miles away where there is a taxi service right next to the station. The train timetable can be accessed on www.nationalrail.co.uk.  See below.

Travel by taxi

You can get a taxi with R and R Taxis by calling 01825 765322. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Before your arrival you will be sent detailed directions on how to get to Sunnymead Cottages.

Parking

We have a car park. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is free.
There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point does not have a dropped kerb.
From the parking to the main entrance, there are 2 steps. There is no ramp and no lift.

There is a car parking area next to the cottage providing ample space for parking.  It is sloping gently and has a gravel surface. The distance to the cottage is at most some 20 metres over gravel, concrete and paving slabs.  You can park directly outside the cottage to unpack etc.  Automatic lighting is triggered in the car park at night.  You will be escorted to your cottage on arrival.

From the street to the main entrance, there are 2 steps. There is no ramp and no lift.

Main entrance

The door is 740mm wide.
The main entrance has 2 steps.
When you arrive, we can help carry your luggage.

Russets has 1 external  door - the front door.  This door in accessed after mounting 2 steps (height 150mm and 1000mm wide) and is protected by a canopy under which there is an external light.  The door has a 80mm threshold, is 740 wide and the keyhole is 1000mm in height.  The front door leads straight into the the kitchen/breakfast room.

Getting around inside

Bedrooms

All bedrooms have windows.
Bedrooms have ceiling lights, wall lights, spot lights and natural daylight.
Lights are halogen and traditional filament. Some TVs have subtitles.
All bedrooms are non-smoking.
We have non-allergic bedding.
All bedrooms have fitted carpets.
We can give details on our cleaning products on request. All the duvet covers , sheets, pillow cases and towels are 100% cotton. No pets are allow apart from guide dogs.s
No bedrooms have level access. The bedroom nearest the main entrance has 14 steps.
All bedrooms are ensuite.
We have bathrooms with a bath and overhead shower. The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the left.

Self catering kitchen

Kitchen/diner

We have an open plan kitchen.
From the main entrance to the kitchen, there are 2 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.
The work surface is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.
The hob is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.
The sink is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.
The oven is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.

The kitchen/diner has 2 windows on 2 walls  and overlooks a hedged sitting out area reserved for Russets. 

 

 

 

 

Lounge

Sitting Room

From the main entrance to the lounge, there are 14 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.

The sitting room has a sash window giving excellent light.  There are 13 steep narrow carpeted stairs up to sitting room from kitchen (each step 710mm wide) with a hand rail to stair well at top.  1 step  to the right at top leads into the sitting room through a 750mm wide access.  The TV has subtitles.

Getting around outside

From the main entrance to the gardens, there are 2 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.

Russets has its own private sitting out area.  Guests may also access the 12 acres of garden with its 2 ponds; and may wander through the fields. However there are many hazards (the ponds, tractor ruts, uneven ground etc.);  so they should excercise due care when availing themselves of these facilites.

To get to a table, there are 2steps steps.
From the main entrance to the terrace, there are 3 steps.

A private sitting out area with table, 2 chairs, umbrella and BBQ.

Accessibility equipment

We do not supply any accessibility equipment.  The Red Cross in Uckfield will lend out mobility equipment.  For information: Tel: 01273 227814 or Email crawleyhubadmin@redcross.org.uk

If we have a assistance dog visiting we will then provide a suitable toilet area near the cottage.

Emergency evacuation procedures

Russets is not suitable for anyone who is not able-bodied or very young because of the steep narrow stairs. Pippins is  more suitable to meet their needs.

Customer care support

Staff are available 24 hours a day.

Before visitors arrive we are happy to receive an on line grocery order on the day of their arrival.  We will unpack and put it away in the kitchen cupboards and refrigerator. Please give us a weeks notice if you would like this service.
