Russets Cottage is part of an early twentieth centuary farm worker's cottage which was converted to 2003 building standards. We have tried to provide as much useful information as possible in this Accessibility Guide but, if you have any queries please telephone or email us. Information about the cottages can be provided in different font sizes. This guide is to be used in conjuction with our web site. We look forward to welcoming you to Russets.

Travel by public transport
We recommend that you use Uckfield Station because it is about 4 miles away where there is a taxi service right next to the station. The train timetable can be accessed on www.nationalrail.co.uk. See below.

Before your arrival you will be sent detailed directions on how to get to Sunnymead Cottages.
Parking
There is a car parking area next to the cottage providing ample space for parking. It is sloping gently and has a gravel surface. The distance to the cottage is at most some 20 metres over gravel, concrete and paving slabs. You can park directly outside the cottage to unpack etc. Automatic lighting is triggered in the car park at night. You will be escorted to your cottage on arrival.

Russets has 1 external door - the front door. This door in accessed after mounting 2 steps (height 150mm and 1000mm wide) and is protected by a canopy under which there is an external light. The door has a 80mm threshold, is 740 wide and the keyhole is 1000mm in height. The front door leads straight into the the kitchen/breakfast room.

The kitchen/diner has 2 windows on 2 walls and overlooks a hedged sitting out area reserved for Russets.

The sitting room has a sash window giving excellent light. There are 13 steep narrow carpeted stairs up to sitting room from kitchen (each step 710mm wide) with a hand rail to stair well at top. 1 step to the right at top leads into the sitting room through a 750mm wide access. The TV has subtitles.
Getting around outside

Russets has its own private sitting out area. Guests may also access the 12 acres of garden with its 2 ponds; and may wander through the fields. However there are many hazards (the ponds, tractor ruts, uneven ground etc.); so they should excercise due care when availing themselves of these facilites.

Emergency evacuation procedures
Russets is not suitable for anyone who is not able-bodied or very young because of the steep narrow stairs. Pippins is more suitable to meet their needs.
Customer care support
Before visitors arrive we are happy to receive an on line grocery order on the day of their arrival. We will unpack and put it away in the kitchen cupboards and refrigerator. Please give us a weeks notice if you would like this service.
