Welcome

Old Hall Marshes comprises extensive grazing marshes with brackish water fleets, reedbeds, saltmarsh and two off-shore islands. Breeding species here include avocet, lapwing, redshank, pochard, shoveler, marsh harrier and bearded tit. During migration  wheatears, whinchats and a variety of waders can also be seen. In the winter the reserve is alive with whistling wigeon and grazing brent geese making this the perfect spot for avid birdwatchers.

Travel by public transport

You can get to RSPB Old Hall Marshes by bus and train.
Catch a bus to Tollesbury, then walk north along sea-wall for approximately two miles. The bus stop is 2 miles / 3.2 km from RSPB Old Hall Marshes.
The nearest train station is Kelvedon . The train station is 10 miles / 16.1 km from RSPB Old Hall Marshes.

From here, you can cycle or catch a bus to Tollesbury.
 

Parking

We have a car park. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is free.
The nearest drop off point is Tollesbury, this is a two mile walk south along the seawall. From the parking to the main entrance, there are 10 steps. There is no ramp and no lift.

The car park is open from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week. It is locked outside of these hours. For access outside of these hours please use the car park at Woodrolfe Road in Tollesbury, approximately two miles from the reserve. 

Please do not park on Old Hall Lane or around the Ship Ahoy.

Designated Walking Trail

Short Walk

The trail is 5000metres long. Some of the trail has a loose surface. Gates on the seawall and slopes off the seawall onto the counter wall tracks. The trail is sloped. The trail has seats.

Most of this trail is along a seawall which at times can be muddy and wet. It is alo quite narrow in places with steep slopes either side. 

Designated Walking Trail

The trail is 10000metres long. Some of the trail has a loose surface. There are gates along the seawall. The trail is sloped. The trail has seats. There are bird hides along the trail.

Small Screen/hide

The hide entrance has 4 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.

Large screen

The hide entrance has 4 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.
