Welcome
The Museum of Lincolnshire Life is the largest and most diverse community museum in the county and it reflects the history and culture of the people of Lincolnshire. Admission to the Museum is free although there is an entry charge on event days.The Museum is based in a former military barracks building with galleries arranged around a central courtyard at ground floor level. The Gatehouse is a two storey building with lift access to galleries on the first floor. You should allow 1 1/2 hours to go around the Museum and an audio-visual,digital guide is available to enhance your visit.Enjoy refreshments in the Gatehouse Tea Room and there is also a gift shop.

Taxis are available at the station and Marks Passenger Services is a local private hire company with wheelchair vehicles.
Parking
There is limited free parking to the front and side of the site for 15 cars and two clearly marked Blue Badge parking spaces, which are located to the right hand side of the main entrance.There is a coach park to the side of the museum.

The shop is an integral part of the reception area. There is ample room within the shop/reception area for a large wheelchair to manoeuvre and turn. There is a hearing loop system installed at reception counter, which operates in an area that is clearly signed. Awheelchair loan is available, free of charge, on request. A magnifying glass is available on Reception, on request. The Museum of Lincolnshire Life welcomes assisstance dogs.

Museum Galleries
The WW1 Trench diorama in the Regimental Gallery has flashing lights, sounds of explosions and comentary at regular intervals. In order to maintain historical accuracy the floor in this area is uneven but still accessible for most wheel chair users.
Individual seats and benches are located at various points arond the galleries.
Floor surface finish around the galleries varies; carpet tiles in Domestic Wing and Commercial Row, wood laminate flooring in the Regimental Gallery, concrete and tarmac elsewhere.There is an area of brick tiles in the stable/blacksmith area. In the Tank bunker in the Industrial Gallery there is a video played on loop explaining the development of the tank. A transcript of the film commentary is available in a folder in the bunker. Some galleries have back ground sounds relating to the objects on display. Interpretation and information boards are all in large text using arial font and have pictorial representation where applicable. Most are at a maximum top height of 1700 mm.

The toilet door opens outwards and is locked by a twist lever lock. There are lever taps on the sink.There is colour contrast with critical surfaces; wall and floors are blue and toilet and washbasin are white. There is an emergency pull cord.The lights come on automatically as you enter the toilet. The flooring is non-slip laminate.

The nearest public toilet with an accessible WC is located adjacent to the Gatehouse Tea room.
The area of the courtyard outside of the Gatehouse tea room has outside seating and tables.
Getting around outside
The pathways around the edge of the Courtyard are 3000 mm.The Courtyard of the Museum contains outside displays of machinery and ploughs. Central to the Courtyard is a children's play area.Between the pathways and the children's play area there are grass areas, which can be uneven underfoot. There are wooden benches at intervals around the courtyard. Wooden tables have a clear height from the flor of 730mm, with individual wooden chairs without arms..Due to the historic nature of the building , one side of the Courtyard is paved with York stone paving and brick tile cobbles.

Automatic push button doors are located throughout the site.
Two disabled toilets, one by the Cafe and the other half way round the site between the Regimental Galleries and the Transport Gallery.

We have two evac mats positioned at the top of the two stair cases in the Gatehouse area of the building.
