Welcome

Mallards Pike is a lovely spot for a picnic and a great day out. There are walking and running trails and an easy-access lakeside path. Mallards Pike is home to the Forest of Dean Go Ape! and the Mallards Pike cafe.

Parking

We have a car park. There are accessible parking spaces. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is not free.
There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point has a dropped kerb.
From the car park to the entrance, there is level access. The path is sloped.
The route is 1430mm wide, or more.

 Access from the main car park to the toilets, cafe, lake,  ticket machines, picnic area and walking trails are via a sloped and uneven surface.  Blue badge parking is available close to the main picnic area, toilets and cafe. Access to these facilities is via a sloped and gravelled surface. Once beyond the car park, the paths are relatively flat and smooth.  There are further blue badge bays located in the overflow section of the car park which is also an uneven gravelled surface. Access from here to the lake is via a gentle sloped forest floor surface.

Purchasing a ticket– There are two pay and display machines located near the blue badge parking areas. Both of these machines only accept coins. However, parking tickets are available from the Mallards Pike cafe which accepts both cash and card payments.

However, visitors with limited mobility can pay by phone or online using paysmarti prior to their arrival

Visitors may wish to stop at the pay and display machine to purchase their ticket before finding a bay to park in.

Parking charges apply to all visitors including blue badge holders, this is a national Forestry Commission policy and parking charges are enforced.

Public toilet

Mallards Pike Toilet

There is a public toilet for disabled visitors.
From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. The route is 1430mm wide, or more.
The toilet door is 810mm wide.
The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the left and right.
There is 750mm at the side of the toilet. The toilet seat is 460mm high. The toilets have handrails.

Access to the toilets from the car park is via a sloped stoned path.

Place to eat and drink

Mallards Pike Cafe

From the main entrance to the dining area, there is level access. The route is 1270mm wide, or more. The door is 1000mm wide.
To get to a table, there are no steps.
If you need table service, staff can help you.
The route through the dining area is 800mm wide, or more.
There is no background music.
The table and plates have high colour contrast.
We cater for sugar free (diabetic), vegetarian, gluten free (celiacs), lactose free (dairy free), nut free, low fat and vegan specific diets.

Mallards Pike cafe serves a selection of hot and cold food and drinks from the lakeside setting.  There is both indoor and outdoor seating available, the cafe is  run by Pedalabikeaway.  01594 729000

Access to the cafe from the car park is via a sloped stoned surface.

Getting around outside

Designated Walking Trail

The trail is 800metres long. The trail has a hard surface. The trail is sloped. The trail has seats.

The Lakeside path is a surfaced path considered easily accessable for for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There are several benches along the way which are great places to watch the ducks and enjoy the scenery.  This path does have two narrow footbridges measuring 1320mm wide.

Picnic Area

From the car park to the picnic area, there is level access. The path is 1430mm wide, or more.
The entrance is 1430mm wide.
Some tables have space for wheelchair users. You can bring your own food to the picnic area.

Mallards Pike picnic area is located at the heart of the site with the cafe and toilet block close by. The picnic site has a number of picnic benches including wheelchair friendly benches all within the panoramic view of the lake. Visitors are welcome to bring their own chairs, tables and picnic blankets.

Access from the main car park to the picnic area is via the main entrance path. This is a slightly sloped, hard stone path.

Go Ape!

From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. The route is 1000mm wide, or more. The entrance is 1000mm wide.

Go Ape! Forest of Dean Tree Top Adventure and Forest Segways are located at Mallards Pike. Spectators may wish to follow their group around the Tree Top Adventure course from the ground. Access from the Go Ape! cabin to the Tree Top Adventure course is down a section of decking 1300mm wide. Paths are in place through the woodland however they are unsurfaced and the narrowest sections of the paths are around 950mm wide.

Dogs are welcome in all outdoor areas of the site. Only Assistance dogs are allowed inside the café. Dog waste can be put into the specific dog waste bin or the general waste bins provided.
