Accessibility Guide for Long Barn

Welcome

Located within Longlands Farm courtyard, this tastefully converted two bedroom holiday cottage sprawls across one level. Neighbouring both our Feasting Barn and Farm Shop it is handily located for stocking up on any food supplies or forgotten items on your arrival.

The views are one of the first things you’ll notice when you start to explore. They are truly stunning, with beautiful ancient woodland and pastures where both sheep graze and a herd of unique Devon Red cattle roam.

For making the most of your stay we recommend time spent on the decked balcony. Drink in the abundant views of pretty wildflower meadows across to Exmoor, with a glimpse of the sea sparkling in the distance at sunset.

Travel by public transport

The nearest train station to Longlands is Barnstaple (12 miles away), however, train routes and connections often make Tiverton Parkway a more convenient station, even though it is 40 miles away. If coming from Barnstaple the Filers 309 Bus stops at Easter Close Cross, practically at the end of the drive.

If travelling from further afield our two nearest airports are Bristol (90 miles / 1 hour 50 minutes) and Exeter (57 miles / 1 hour 10 minutes).

Parking

We have a car park. There are accessible parking spaces. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is free.

There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point does not have a dropped kerb.

From the parking to the main entrance, there are 2 steps. There is no ramp and no lift.

There is parking directly outside the front or rear doorway if required.

We can move the bedroom furniture, to improve accessibility.

The route to the bedroom is 810mm wide, or more. The bedroom door is 810mm wide. There is 1500mm at the side of the bed. The bed is 540mm high. There is 160mm under the bed.

There is a low clothes rail. You can use the rail sitting down.

The bedroom is double. The bathroom is ensuite. The bathroom door is 800mm wide.

The bathroom has a separate shower. The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the front only. There is 450mm at the side of the toilet.

There is 1600mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 430mm high.

The basin is 870mm high. The taps are lever operated. There is no space under the basin.

We have an open plan kitchen.

From the main entrance to the kitchen, there is level access.

The route is 1200mm wide, or more.

The sink is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.

The oven is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.

The table and plates have high colour contrast.

We use dark grey plates and the kitchen table is cream.

From the main entrance to the shop, there are 2 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.

The route through the shop is 800mm wide, or more.

Party Barn

From the main entrance to this area, there are 5 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.

You cross the courtyard from the back door.

Getting around outside

From the main entrance to the gardens, there are 2 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.

The route is sloped.

Longlands is spread over 17 acres on the side of a valley. Therefore, there are slopes and steps in the grounds.

Two steps down from rear dor and a step up to the table tennis barn.

There is a garden outside the front door of the cottage.

We have an area to charge mobility scooters and battery powered wheelchairs.
