Welcome

Harlow International Hostel is situated in the middle of Harlow Town Park and is the perfect place to stay for business or leisure. Nearest shops and railway station are less than ten minutes walk away.

We aim to make your stay an enjoyable one but please note that we are not suitable for wheelchair users.

The property consists of two buildings:-

Old Shop, Ground Floor - Reception, Loung, Dining Area, Kitchen and Toilet. 

 First Floor - Five Bedrroms, Two Showers, Two Toilets

Old Barn,   Four Bedrooms, Two Showers, Two Toilets

The main entrance has 1 step. There is no lift and no ramp.

Hearing

The fire alarm has a vibrating pillow pad and flashing lights.
The (bedroom) TVs have subtitles.
Some staff have disability awareness training.

Visual

Glass doors and full-height windows have contrast markings.
The walls and the doors have high colour contrast.

General

Staff are available 24 hours a day.
Some staff have disability awareness training.
We have emergency evacuation procedures for disabled visitors.

Travel by public transport

You can get to Harlow International Hostel by bus and train.
First Avenue (Old Swimming Pool), Harlow. Bus stop has a shelter and an electronic indicator board showing bus arrivals. The bus stop is 0.3 miles / 0.5 km from Harlow International Hostel.
The nearest train station is Harlow Town. The train station is 0.5 miles / 0.8 km from Harlow International Hostel.

Harlow Town station has automatic entrance doors and lifts to platforms are available.

Travel by taxi

You can get a taxi with Town Taxis by calling 01279 438888. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Parking

There is parking near the venue. There are accessible parking spaces. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is not free.
There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point has a dropped kerb.
From the car park to the entrance, there is level access. The path is sloped.
The route is 2000mm wide, or more.

Car Park is free for disabled badge holders.

There is a gentle slope from the car park to the hostel.

Our main entrance has a sloping cobbled path, if this may cause you problems please let us know and we will bring you in via our rear entrance.

Visual Impairment - General Information

We have contrast markings on all glass doors, contrast markings on all full-height windows and high colour contrast between walls and doorframes.

Lift

From the main entrance to reception, there is 1 step. There is no lift and no ramp.
You can sit down at reception.

All guests are welcomed at the entrance lobby, where a toilet is available, then invited into the Lounge where they are asked to register. One step is required.

Plentiful seating of all types is available.

All floors are carpeted.

Pen, paper and a magnifying glass are available.

All guests are shown the Lounge, Dining Area, Self Catering Kitchen, Toilets, Washrooms and their Bedroom.

 

 

Bedrooms

All bedrooms have windows.
Bedrooms have ceiling lights, floor standing lights, bedside lamps, desk or table lamps and natural daylight.
Lights are LED. TVs have subtitles.
All bedrooms are non-smoking.
We have non-allergic bedding.
All bedrooms have fitted carpets.
We can move the bedroom furniture, to improve accessibility.
No bedrooms have level access. The bedroom nearest the main entrance has 15 steps.
We have bathrooms with a separate shower.
Some toilets have handrails.
The walls and the fittings have high colour contrast.

Place to eat and drink

Dining Room

From the main entrance to the dining area, there is 1 step. There is no lift and no ramp.
To get to a table, there are no steps.
The dining area is self-service. If you need table service, staff can help you.
There is no background music.
The table and plates have high colour contrast.

We are a self catering establishment.

Lounge

From the main entrance to this area, there is 1 step. There is no lift and no ramp.

Getting around outside

Garden

From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. The route is 690mm wide, or more. The entrance is 690mm wide.

Accessibility equipment

The nearest toilet area for assistance dogs is located within the garden , 25 metres from the main entrance.
You can hire mobility equipment from Shopmobility by calling 01279 453024.

Emergency evacuation procedures

We have emergency evacuation procedures for disabled visitors.
The fire alarm has a vibrating pillow pad.
The fire alarm has flashing lights.

Some bedrooms and Lounge have flashing lights that operate if the fire alarm is activated. A vibrating pad is available upon request.

Customer care support

Some staff have disability awareness training.
Staff are available 24 hours a day.

In case of need, staff can be cotacted outside of Reception opening hours by either ringing bell at reception or if necessary by using mobile phone.

We have other services for people with accessibility requirements.
