Welcome
Set within the attractive conservation village of Elsecar, Elsecar Heritage Centre is a unique family attraction and a working hub of industry. With a nearby park, canal-side walks and access to the Trans Pennine Trail, Elsecar Heritage Centre is a fascinating day out for all the family.
Visitors to Elsecar Heritage Centre will find an interesting variety of individual craft workshops, artist studios, antique centres and exhibitions alongside a children’s indoor play centre, cafe and a historical steam railway. The restored ironworks and colliery workshops are also home to Elsecar Visitor Centre which houses a small exhibition about Elsecar’s past.

You can walk from the station to the Heritage Centre or catch the 136 bus from St Helens Street
The route to the train station is sloped - downhill from the station to Elsecar and uphill on the way back.

Main entrance
'Main entrance' refers to the archway tunnel leading from the car park into the main square at Elsecar, rather than any of the individual buildings. Elsecar Heritage Centre is made up of a number of independent businesses - this guide specifically focusses on the outdoor areas, public toilets and main visitor centre.
Enter the main street from the Car Park. There is a square with picnic tables to your right, a cafe to your left and a street straight ahead leading to Playmania, Elsecar Heritage Centre visitor centre and shops/businesses.

Lift in the visitor centre to Learning space (where meetings and family or school activities are held - this space is not usually open to the public)

The Ironworks is only open to the public on event days e.g. craft fairs or special events, or for private events such as weddings and talks.

There are steps beside the Pantry Cafe up to the Ironworks and back car park. An alternative level access route is available going round the shops to the right of these steps.
