Welcome

Dove Cottage is a detached house in the gardens of Weardale House, it is situated in a small courtyard with access to a large flat garden. It is in Sherburn Village, which is mainly on the flat, it is two miles from Durham City. 

The cottage is arranged on two floors with the ground floor having a large lounge diner and kitchen, upstairs is a shower room and bedroom. The cottage is suitable for two people max, and guests may bring pets, by arrangement.

The village has good local facilities including a Co-op supermarket, a Post Office, Pharmacy, Bakery and a Pub. 

Free Wi Fi is available

Travel by public transport

You can get to Dove Cottage by bus and train.
The nearest bus stop travelling from Durham City is at the Co-op, Front Street, Sherburn Village , 2mins walk from Dove Cottage. The nearest bus stop travelling in the opposite direction is at the village green Sherburn Village, 2mins walk from Dove Cottage Buses that stop in Sherburn Village are, Arriva 64, 24, Go North East 204 The bus stop is 0.1 miles / 0.2 km from Dove Cottage .
The nearest train station is Durham . The train station is 3 miles / 4.8 km from Dove Cottage .

There are always taxis at Durham Station  

There are regular bus services to and from the village and Durham City Centre every 20 minutes

You can get a taxi with Sherburn Taxis by calling 0191 372 3388. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Parking

There is parking near the venue. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is free.
There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point does not have a dropped kerb.
From the parking to the main entrance, there is 1 step. There is no ramp and no lift.

The parking spot is on an area of granite setts and so is bumpy, but the rest of the entrance is level and flat with a smooth surface

Pets are accepted in this cottage, it is thoroughly cleaned after each pet stay
No bedrooms have level access. The bedroom nearest the main entrance has 11 steps.
We have bathrooms with a separate shower.

We have a separate kitchen and dining room. From the main entrance to the kitchen, there is 1 step. There is no lift and no ramp.
The work surface is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.
The hob is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.
The sink is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.
The oven is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.
The table and plates have high colour contrast.
From the main entrance to the dining room, there is 1 step. There is no lift and no ramp.

There is one step of 100mm from the lounge/dinner to the kitchen 

There is one step from the kitchen to the outside via the back door

From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. The route is 700mm wide, or more.

There is a large level garden with garden furniture and a summer house

The garden and courtyard outside the cottage are level. the garden has level lawns and a summer house on a paved area

It is possible to exercise assistance dogs in the garden, there are also lots of country walks around the cottage
We have an area to charge mobility scooters and battery powered wheelchairs.

There is a charging point in the garage that could be used
