Beach wheelchairs are free to book via Beach Access North East. https://beachaccessnortheast.org/
These are amphibious chairs so can be used to facilitate a transfer into a kayak or onto a paddleboard, or to enter the water to swim or float.
Customer care support
We recommend liaising with Beach Access North East who can provide beach wheelchairs at Cullercoats Bay, free of charge: https://beachaccessnortheast.org/
We have worked with a range of customers in the past with complex needs including wheelchair users, amputees, visually impaired people, people with brain injuries and people with learning disabilities. Our activities often require negotiating uneven ground and include a range of new sensations and movements for those who don't regularly use the water. We recommend you contact us prior to booking to discuss this. We always liaise with our clients on an individual basis to understand what they can do themselves, what extra support is needed and what can feasibly be provided by ourselves or external agencies.
