Welcome

The Collection brings together an award winning archaeology museum and the region’s premier art gallery, the Usher Gallery, in the heart of historic Lincoln.

Come face to face with Lincolnshire’s earliest inhabitants in the museum and explore the wonderful art collections in the Usher Gallery before relaxing in the Stokes at The Collection cafe. Discover Play, our exciting space for younger visitors and enjoy our vibrant exhibition programme.

Level access

The main entrance has level access.

Travel by public transport

You can get to The Collection by bus and train.
The nearest bus stop is 322m down the road, located on Silver Street. The bus stop is 0.2 miles / 0.3 km from The Collection.
The nearest train station is Lincoln Railway Station. The train station is 0.6 miles / 1.0 km from The Collection.

Travel by taxi

You can get a taxi with Mark's Passenger Service by calling 01522 793816. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Parking

There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point does not have a dropped kerb.

There is a dropped kerb area on Danesgate with a museum entrance via the courtyard.  These entrance doors are not automatic.

Lift

We have 2 lifts.
You can get a lift to all floors.

Cafe and Public Toilet lift

The lift door is 800mm wide.
The lift is 1300mm wide. The lift is 1500mm deep.
The lift says the floor number at each floor.
The lift buttons have raised numbers or letters.
The lift shows the floor number, at each floor.

Education lift

The lift door is 800mm wide.
The lift is 1300mm wide. The lift is 1400mm deep.
The lift says the floor number at each floor.
The lift buttons have raised numbers or letters.

Main Gallery

From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. Some display information is low, for wheelchair users. There are seats.

We have £1 audio/visual iGuides offering visitors additional information on the exhibits in the main gallery.

There are a number of interactive touch screen activities throughout the museum; all can be accessed from a sitting or standing position.

We have some information available in large print.

We have a number of objects that can be touched and handled.

There are wooden benches situated throughout the museum and main gallery areas.

Some areas of the galleries are dimly lit to aid preservation of the exhibits.

Orientation Hall

Curtois Gallery

Some videos have subtitles.

This is a temporary exhibition space and each exhibition can have variations on the above.  Please ask staff for details.

Courtyard Gallery

From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. Some display information is low, for wheelchair users. There are seats.

Main Public Accessibility Toilet

There is a public toilet for disabled visitors.
From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. The toilet door is 900mm wide.
There is 1200mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 480mm high.

Orientation Hall Accessibility toilet

There is a public toilet for disabled visitors.
From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. The toilet door is 800mm wide.
There is 1300mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 480mm high.

Shop

The Collection Shop

From the main entrance to the shop, there is level access. The route through the shop is 800mm wide, or more.

Place to eat and drink

Stokes Cafe

From the main entrance to the dining area, there is level access. To get to a table, there are no steps.
The route through the dining area is 800mm wide, or more.
There is background music.
We cater for sugar free (diabetic), vegetarian, gluten free (celiacs), lactose free (dairy free), high fibre and vegan specific diets.

Dietary requirements can be catered for with prior notice.

PLAY

From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. The door is 1100mm wide.

Assistantance may be needed to open the door as it is restricted for child safety reasons.

Getting around outside

Temple Gardens

From the main entrance to the gardens, there is level access.
The route is 1000mm wide, or more.

Courtyard

From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. The entrance is 1400mm wide.

There is external access with a drop kerb and internal access through the main musuem.

There are large print label books on request and audio guides to hire for £1.
