Welcome to Broad Bay House. Broad Bay House is owned and run by Sue and Tom and we share your passion for traveling and exploring. Service, simplicity and style are at our core; when you book a stay with us, you’re guaranteed to have an extraordinary experience. From the moment you walk in the door, you’ll feel the special Broad Bay House hospitality. We are very proud to be the only 5-star VisitScotland accredited Bed and Breakfast in the Outer Hebrides. Purpose designed and built as a spacious luxury guest house, Broad Bay House is based on a traditional island design, equipped and decorated to a high quality contemporary style.

The nearest port is Stornoway. The port is 8 miles / 12.9 km from Broad Bay House.

We have a car park. There are accessible parking spaces. Parking is free.
There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point does not have a dropped kerb.

Bedrooms

All bedrooms have windows.
Bedrooms have wall lights, floor standing lights, bedside lamps, desk or table lamps and natural daylight.
Lights are LED and energy saving. TVs have subtitles.
All bedrooms are non-smoking.
We have non-allergic bedding.
All bedrooms have fitted carpets.
We can move the bedroom furniture, to improve accessibility.
We have bed blocks.

The route to the bedroom is 1530mm wide, or more. The bedroom door is 820mm wide. There is a low clothes rail. You can use the rail sitting down.
The bedroom is flexible (either double or twin). The bathroom is ensuite. The bathroom door is 820mm wide.
The bathroom has a separate shower. The shower has a seat. The shower has a handrail.
The bathroom has a level access shower. There is a shower chair available. The level access shower has handrails.
The toilets have handrails. The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the left. There is 1420mm at the side of the toilet.
There is 1820mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 460mm high.
The basin is 730mm high. The taps are lever operated. There is space under the basin, with no pedestal or boxing.
The bathroom has an emergency call system.

From the main entrance to the dining area, there is level access. The route is 1530mm wide, or more. The door is 1490mm wide.
To get to a table, there are no steps.
The route through the dining area is 800mm wide, or more.
There is background music sometimes.
We cater for vegetarian, gluten free (celiacs) and vegan specific diets.

Getting around outside

From the main entrance to the gardens, there are 9 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.
The route is sloped.

At the back of the house there is a large grassed garden with views and access to the beach. There is outdoor seating on the deck at the back of the house and on the grass in the summer. Please ask for additional chairs, rugs etc. There are 2 steps and then a further 7 steps down onto the grassed area via the deck at the back of the house. Alternatively, the back garden and sea view can be accessed from the front of the house, where it is all on one level. However, there is a large gravelled area to the side of the house which must be crossed to get to the back of the house.

Assistance dogs can use both the front and back garden and also the beach.
We have an area to charge mobility scooters and battery powered wheelchairs.

Emergency evacuation procedures

We have emergency evacuation procedures for disabled visitors.

Please refer to fire escape procedures in your bedroom when you arrive. The house is equipped with a full fire alarm system, with detectors and sounders in every room. The fire alarm sound is rather loud and unmistakable. If the alarm sounds, please follow the evacuation instructions on the wall near the bedroom door. • If you have hearing difficulties and may not hear the fire alarm – please notify us immediately so we can arrange for special action in case of emergency.
