Welcome

Barracks Lane Community Garden is a beautiful green space and eco building at the heart of a vibrant community in Oxford. It is for everyone to use and enjoy by visiting, booking for a private function or by coming along to one of the many events and activities that are held throughout the year.

The Garden Project has charitable status and is run by members of the local community who volunteer their time and expertise. We hope you will feel inspired to come and visit the garden soon.

Travel by public transport

You can get to Barracks Lane Community Garden by bus.
The nearest bus stop is Howard Street. The bus stop is 0.2 miles / 0.3 km from Barracks Lane Community Garden.

There are regular bus services to the Cowley Road from Oxford City Centre and Blackbird Leys.

Parking

There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point has a dropped kerb.

We encourage people to come on foot or by bicycle if possible, as the road is a quiet and narrow residential road. This allows for people that need to be dropped at the entrance to the garden to do so without too much congestion!

Access to the garden is along a drive which opens straight onto the garden.

Public toilet

Compost Toilet

There is a public toilet for disabled visitors.
From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. There is a permanent ramp.
The route is 940mm wide, or more.
The toilet door is 950mm wide.
The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the left.
There is 900mm at the side of the toilet. There is 1400mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 450mm high. The toilets have handrails.

Cabin

From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. There is a permanent ramp. The route is 940mm wide, or more.
The door is 1220mm wide.

Getting around outside

Designated Walking Trail

Garden

The trail is 30metres long. Some of the trail has a loose surface. The trail is sloped. The trail has seats.

At the top of the garden is a shelter, which has a 4cm kerb. There is a hard-paved slope down to a hard-paved area with raised beds, benches, sheds, a pond, and pizza and bread ovens. At the bottom of the slope is a shallow grated gutter. Beyond the raised beds area is a grassed area with a space for a bonfire, more raised beds, and fruit trees. At the bottom of the garden is an 88cm gate and a steeper slope into an area which will be turned into a memory garden.

The nearest toilet area for assistance dogs is at the end of garden.
We have an area to charge mobility scooters and battery powered wheelchairs.

There is mains electricity access in the cabin.
